The mission of the Snack Sak Program is to fill the gap of hunger for students during the weekend in Charles and St. Mary’s County MD. During the weekend, other food resources aren’t available such as reduced breakfast and lunch programs within the school. We provide ready to eat, kid friendly, nutritious snacks in unmarked bags. The children we serve are identified by the school through the parent liaison or councilor, and are only identified through us by assigned letter to keep their identity private yet still allow us to pack backs for specific children with allergies. These bags are then delivered weekly to the partnering school and discreetly distributed to the children by the school staff. For extended break periods when the children are out of school for longer periods of time, we make sure that the bags we pack are larger than normal to hold them over for a few extra days. During the holiday season over the past few years, we have also been fortunate enough to provide each of our recipients a Christmas gift!
For the 2021/2022 school year,
We are currently distributing nearly 4,000 saks children in 11 schools in Charles and St. Mary’s county!
