Living in community and having an impact is what we do. As a change agent for good, bringing people together to solve problems and design sustainable solutions is how we do it. Building on a rich history, today’s United Way of Southern Maryland is currently the third largest in the state of Maryland and is strategically poised to make a larger impact in tri-county communities than ever before.
In Calvert, Charles and St. Mary’s counties, we are opening the spaces for more voices to be heard. Adding new voices to the conversation shines a light in new spaces of need and elevates the impact.
WE ARE FOCUSED
EDUCATION
One of the most important keys to elevating a community is education. United Way of Southern Maryland is investing resources in early literacy, increased graduation rates, academic support, self-esteem building, and the exploration of post high school pathways – all proven strategies to help people succeed. Ensuring a strong educational foundation has a cascade effect for a healthy future and prosperity in our communities.
HEALTH
Impacting health and wellness requires a comprehensive approach and United Way of Southern Maryland is uniquely poised to convene stakeholders charged with preventing chronic disease and improving health outcomes.
From reducing childhood hunger to promoting healthy lifestyles, we invest in strategies that afford people of all ages and economic backgrounds opportunities for healthier living.
FINANCIAL STABILITY
To address the obstacles that prevent hard working families from getting ahead financially, United Way of Southern Maryland is focusing resources on financial literacy, stable housing, employment, and entrepreneurship. United Way supports families meeting their basic needs while gaining the financial stability to plan for and accomplish long term financial goals.
BASIC NEEDS
Speaking of basic needs, the global pandemic informed the need to be ever ready to nimbly support the recovery of our communities in a variety of ways. From homelessness to food insecurity, we are present and involved in the support of agency partners and programming to mitigate the effects of COVID 19 on our communities.
